Arrive at 9am in South San Francisco to pick up your reserved motorcycle. Quickly load up the motorcycle side cases or top box with what little you need and leave your luggage there. You’ll probably have to fight commute traffic as you head north into San Francisco but that will change as soon as you get on the Bay Bridge. The bridge is the real bridge of San Francisco and is the starting point for Interstate 80 which crosses the entire nation. You’ll cross another bridge as you head north towards the wine country. Don’t worry about bridge tolls your bike is all locally set up, just right through the “fastrack” lanes. Dive into the wine country on hidden back roads and head for your delicious lunch stop in the northern tip of the Napa Valley. Climb up out of the valley on some challenging curves and take the local riders route west. Appropriate fuel stops are marked on your route and keep you topped up as you are heading into open country. Cross through the northern wine country and continue west as coastal mist gives rise to redwood forests. Head out on the coastline to your hotel for the next two nights. Hit the local pub and bistro with 31 local beers on tap and excellent dining. Things move at a slower pace up here on the wild north coast so relax and enjoy it.
Day
2 Point Arena to Point Arena 230mi/370km
Head out early into the morning mist, if the homemade waffle batter at your coastal hotel wasn’t to your liking we’ve got a hidden gem of a cafe just up the road for a great local breakfast. Follow the back road route into the mountains on a road no tourist bus could ever reach to a local redwood preserve that few know about. A short hike in and far from the bustling crowds, you’ll see why this redwood grove is special. Continue down the mountain back road until you arrive in Ukiah, fuel up grab a tasty local sandwich and get on the highway. What is 16 lanes of cement further south is a 2 lane highway up here. Stop in at the kitch, but still worthy, drive-through redwood tree before heading west on the twistiest section of California Highway 1 to the coast. This is the loneliest stretch of this famous coastal road and it’s a real must for any rider. Fuel up again in the report town of Fort Bragg before heading south to your hotel. You might want to stop off in the tourism town of Mendocino but pass on the tourist cafe’s and instead eat where the locals do, it’s marked in your route guide.
Day
3 Point Arena to Windsor to San Francisco 190 miles/305km
Ride south to a great breakfast review your route possibilities for the day. You'll have a choice. This description is for the long ride back. Your GPS routes you off the coast and on to a back road only the local riders know. Back into hidden country you go until 20 miles later something strange happens. The road turns goes from country mountain road into something that looks like a race track. This high banked back road leads you into the Sonoma wine country and then the route turns west again through the redwoods and back out to the Pacific. Your GPS will guide you to the best beach on the wild north coast to take in the view and watch the seals bob up and down in the waves. Continue south and get gas in the iconic but heavily touristed Bodega Bay. Further south we route you to a great open air dinning spot that pulls oysters right out of the bay and prepares them right there. A nice array of other lunch options are available as this is the home of Northern California’s organic ranch country. A hidden back way across the ranch country brings you to the final stretch of super curvy roads high above the sea. Follow the GPS as it takes you to the best Golden Gate Bridge viewing spot in the afternoon for that great end of tour photo. Ride across the bridge itself and skirt the edge of the city before returning safely back to South San Francisco. A comfortable suite waits nearby, not far from the airport, so you can catch an early flight home tomorrow.
