Ride the craziest track in a country many overlook. Portugal is Europes oldest country and two centuries ago is was a dominant world power. Today it’s content with just being one of the most free and democratic nations on earth. Remnants of its grand past make Portugal a scenic place to ride today. Curvy coastlines and rugged mountains are connected by roads spotted with towns with rich history. You’ll see old castles, opulent palaces, grand cathedrals, preserved walled cities and the occasional monastery hidden away in the mountains. It’s perfect for touring with an emphasis on great coast lines but we’re here for more than just a sporty ride through the country. The most wild MotoGP circuit is found here and you get to ride it for three days. This is the rollercoaster of Portimao, officially known as Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. This is a riders tour with days off the beaten path to enjoy great roads and great scenery far from the tourist trail. Our local guides put some effort into making this route special for the Leod Escapes style rider. Come join us and ride the dream.

Tour Cancellation Policy
Special Corona Virus 2021 Addendum to Cancelation Policy
Here it is in plain English.
If the tour must be canceled because Portugal is locked down again or you can not get a visa to enter due to Covid19 (SARS-CoV-2) you will get your full amount of money back with 45 days of cancelation. It takes us a while to get what refunds we can.
Leod Escapes is taking the cancelation risk. We will loose at least $1400 on every person if the tour is forced to cancel. Given the situation we feel confident with that bet. If YOU are required to get a Covid19 test in order to travel and you refuse, then you will loose your deposit. We’ve taken the test ourselves, it’s really not that bad.
Other than Covid19, normal cancelation policy applies.
Standard Cancelation Policy
Cancellations are rare but hotel and bike vendors are often not as forgiving as we’d like. If you must cancel Leod Escapes urges you to transfer your tour slot to a good friend whenever possible. It’s not in our benefit to operate at a loss but it is in our best interests that you feel you are treated fairly.
A deposit of around 30% reserves your bike(s) and rooms. Full payment is due 60 days before the tour.
If you cancel 60 days or more prior to the tour, you will lose 30% of the deposit, any balance will be held as credit towards another tour for the same or following year.
If you cancel between 59 and 21 days prior to the starting date of the tour you will lose the deposit. The balance will be held in credit towards another tour in the same or following year.
If you cancel 20 days prior to the starting date of the tour you loose 100% of the tour cost.

Welcome to Lisbon. We advise you to arrive a day or two early as the city itself is stupendous. You will be met at the airport by our staff and taken to our local hotel. There will be a welcome dinner and a chance to get to know your guides, fellow riders and learn more about your upcoming adventure.
Day
2 Lisbon to Tomar
Hopefully you arrived a day or two early to enjoy the sights of Lisbon because today we are off. We’ll ride along the coastline past the casino resorts of Cascais as we head to Cabo da Roca. This is the western most point of Europe and more importantly for European riders a good place to enjoy high cliff coastal roads. The Portuguese flair for design is made clear as we head past the palaces near Sintra. A curvy run up the coastal back roads takes us to the medieval walled town of Obidos. From there we head east to one of the headquarters of the Knights Templar, the old river town of Tomar.
Day
3 Tomar to Covilhâ
Today we get off the beaten path and into the mountains no tourist ever sees. This also means good curvy roads, along the Zézre River, around the empty mountains of Serra da Alvelos and Serra da Louså and around the Serra da Estrela. This is where the knowledge of our local guides really makes a difference as we enjoy the best mountain riding Portugal has to offer. Empty roads, endless curves for us to enjoy at good speed and views that no tourist bus will ever deliver. This is why we ride.
Day
4 Covilhâ to Évora
If you had fun yesterday then get your throttle and brake hand warmed up again with that cup of coffee. We are still right in them middle of the best mountain riding in Portugal. Today we head for the curves of the Tejo River valley and the open fields of Alentejo. Tonights stop is the gorgeous old walled city of Évora.
Day
5 Évora to Tavira
It’s all about our local guides expertise again today. We are riding the hidden backroads of Guadiana River Valley that grace the border of Portugal and Spain. Still far from the tourist trail we hit the curves of the eastern Algarve before entering the medieval city of Tavira on the coast.
Day
6 Tavira to Portimao
It’s often the case that great local roads give way to a circuit eventually being built. Today we ride the inspiration in the Algarve. Great pavement, winding views, roads long forgotten, now only used by riders who know. We head north into the Sera da Monchique before decending south again to the massive Algarve International Circuit aka Portimao. Our hotel is within walking distance of the track and we’ll probably meet some of our track crew tonight.
Day
7 Portimao Day One
You join a trackday with fellow track riders just like you, only they live in Europe. Today it’s all about learning the lines and getting used to your machine. We’ll have a pit box and our bike crew will be on hand to adjust the bike for you. Some EU riders will be on hand to give you some tips on the lines. Remember after the hills to let your front settle before applying the brakes or you could take a surprise trip off track.
Day
8 Portimao Day Two
Today it’s about boosting your speed and getting your body position right so you can increase your lean angle with more confidence. You’re getting more familiar with the nine rights and six lefts of this complex circuit. How comfortable will you become with braking after the main straight on the downhill?
Day
9 Portimao Day Three
This is the most challenging circuit on the MotoGP calendar. Everyone is just starting to refer to it as “The Rollercoaster” for good reason. Fabio Quartararo managed a 1:38.862 lap time in 2021. Most of us would be happy to have a lap time of 40 seconds more. It’s when you ride these circuits yourself that you can really appreciate the abilities of the best riders in the world. Today it’s time to think further ahead and put it all together and soak up the joy of the craziest circuit on the MotoGP calendar. Tonight we’ll take some cabs into town and celebrate 3 days of track bliss.
Day
10 Portimao to Lisbon
Shake off those sore muscles as we head to the Atlantic coast with lonely beaches and lighthouses. Ever wonder what a forest of cork trees look like? Ride through one. We ride all the way up the coast of Portugal to the Peninsula de Troia and into the Arrábida National Park. We cross over the Ponte 25 de Abril back into Lisbon before dropping off our bikes and heading to our farewell dinner.
Day
11 Departure Day
Leod Escapes staff will double check with everyone regarding their departure times as sharing cabs can be economical. After a trip like this we know it’s not goodbye. People become great friends on adventures like these and frequently want to take another trip with Leod Escapes together. So which trip will you do next time?
